Valley-fill deposits, exposed by Twentieth-Century dissection of a number of meadows on the west slope of the southern Sierra Nevada, contain a stratigraphic record strongly affected by secular variations in watershed hydrology during the Holocene. Meadows are situated in low gradient reaches, adaquately supported by seepage water, where fine textured materials accumulate under present Cited by: Technical Letter NTS Geology of Yucca Flat quadrangle, Nevada Test Site, Nevada (Decem ), by E. , 7 p., 1 oversized map. Cenozoic subduction along western North America is widely recognized as a major contributor to the geologic evolution of this region. Associated Cascades arc magmatism (McBirney, ) is universally accepted as representing subduction of the oceanic Farallon plate beneath North tion and related Cascades arc magmatism were progressively extinguished at the southern end of the arc Cited by: "Base map: U.S. Geological Survey Grassy Mountain ʹ quadrangle, and Pony Springs ʹ quadrangle, " Includes 3 cross sections, USGS quad index map, topography source diagrams, 2 ancillary maps, and col. ill. Includes bibliographical references in pamphlet.
Meadows do not necessarily owe their origin to glacial modification of drainage. Many meadows have formed in both glaciated and unglaciated valleys by a water table rise in valley-fill deposits. Ground water in any meadow drainage basin is annually recharged by snowmelt. Glacial geology and chronology of Bishop Creek and vicinity, eastern Sierra Nevada, California Fred M. CONTRIBUTIONS TO GENERAL GEOLOGY GEOLOGY OF THE ASH MEADOWS QUADRANGLE, NEVADA-CALIFORNIA By CHARLES S.
DENNY and HARALD DREWES ABSTRACT The Ash Meadows quadrangle lies about 25 miles east of Death Valley and includes Geology of the Ash Meadows quadrangle southern part of the Amargosa Desert, a broad lowland adjacent to the Amargosa by: OCLC Number: Notes: This volume was printed as separate chapters A-S in Contributions to general geology One folded map in pocket, Plate 1: Geologic map and sections of the Ash Meadows quadrangle, Nevada-California, PP / Hewett, D.

Cenozoic volcanic rocks of the Devils Postpile quadrangle are of late Pliocene to Recent age and are divided into 11 map units. The suite is alkalic-calcic and ranges in composition from basalt to rhyolite. It includes a rhyolitic welded ash-flow tuff which is probably correlative with the Bishop Tuff, although the two units are geographically isolated by the Sierra Nevada drainage divide.

KING HUBER and C. DEAN KINEHART ABSTRACT Cenozoic volcanic rocks of the Devils Postpile quadrangle are of late Pliocene to Nevada-California book age and are divided into 11 map by: This book is basically a field guide to the geology of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
There is lots of information about rock types and where they are found, and many excellent color photos. There is also a very good description of the history of the geology of the Sierra Nevada and California, how they were formed by tectonic by: A basic book on the Geology of the Sierra Nevada.
If you looking for something to introduce you to the geology of this awesome mountain then this is a good book for you. If looking for advanced information look else where/5. The Funeral Mountains are a short, arid mountain range in the United States along the California-Nevada border approximately mi ( km) west of Las mountains are considered a subrange of the Amargosa Range that form the eastern wall of Death Valley.
The crest of the range is within Death Valley National range is separated from the Grapevine Mountains to the northwest District: Inyo County.
The Mound Spring quadrangle, the southwestern-most ' quadrangle of the area of the Las Vegas ,scale quadrangle, is entirely within the Pahrump Valley, spanning the Nevada/California State line.
New geologic mapping of the predominantly Quaternary materials is combined with new studies of gravity and geochronology in this quadrangle. Geology of the Sierra Nevada (California Natural History Guides) I enjoy science books that take a historical approach, explaining when and how the facts were determined.
This approach brings science to life. Besides the historical information, this book is a comprehensive reference that I will carry with me on hikes in the Sierras.5/5(4).
